I managed to fit in two walks today, and they felt completely different from one another.
I started the morning in Old Basing, where I used to live. It was really misty when I arrived, which gave everything a quiet, autumnal feel. One of my favourite finds was a beautiful spider web covered in tiny droplets of moisture. It really stood out in the mist and made a lovely photograph.
As the morning went on, the mist gradually cleared and it turned into a stunning day.
Afterwards, I headed over to Rowhill in Aldershot specifically to see what fungi I could find. I definitely wasn’t disappointed, although I was surprised that there didn’t seem to be as many mushrooms around as I would normally expect at this time of year.
There was still plenty to photograph, and I came away with some great shots, including:
- Brittlestems — Psathyrella spp.
- Brown Roll-Rim — Paxillus involutus
- Deceiver — Laccaria laccata
- Sulphur Tuft — Hypholoma fasciculare
- Felted Twiglet — Tubaria conspersa
- Hypomyces — Hypomyces sp.
It was a really enjoyable autumn walk, and another reminder that even when there seems to be less around than expected, taking the time to look closely usually reveals plenty. The fungi photography was definitely the highlight of the second walk, while the misty spider web was probably my favourite moment from the morning.
